About the Director General
Dr. Luiz Antonio Santini was nominated by the Ministry of Health as Director
General of the National Cancer Institute (INCA) in July 2005. He joined
INCA in 2003 as co-ordinatior of the Strategic Actions Department where
he was recognized for his contributions to the implementation of the participative
management model.
Dr. Santini served as subsecretary of health at the State Government of
Rio de Janeiro and was author and co-author of publications in general
surgery, thoracic surgery, and health planning and administration.
He graduated from Fluminense Federal University (UFF) in Rio de Janeiro,
where he also completed medical residence in General Surgery at the Antonio
Pedro University Hospital (Hospital Universitário Antônio
Pedro - HUAP) and obtained a master degree in thoracic surgery. He is
a regular member of the Brazilian College of Surgeons.
His professional experience in clinical education includes the direction
of the College of Medicine of UFF, where he implemented a pioneer project
for the integration of health services and the academic area. This strategy
has become widely referenced and impacted medical education curricula
and the organization of health services (Niteroi Project - Projeto Niterói).
Dr. Santini has also carried out three mandates as the executive director
of the Brazilian Association of Medical Education and served as a guest
professor of health administration at the Federal University of Rio de
Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro).
Furthermore, he is also an advising editor of Brazilian Journal of Medical
Education, associate professor of the department of general and specialized
surgery of UFF’s college of medicine and headed the emergency service
of the HUAP. At present, he is an associate professor of the community
health institute of UFF.
He served as Nova Friburgo’s municipal secretary of health, where
he coordinated the implementation of the Health Card project, as INAMPS’
regional superintendent for the state of Rio de Janeiro and as chairman
of the administration board of the Vital Brasil Institute. |
